A short (carbon-offset) flight, and the promise of winter sun and dramatic volcanic scenery, drew Jo and me to the wonderful Canary Islands for a second time in three years.
We honeymooned on La Palma in 2017 and that craggy little island left us wanting more of the Canarian experience. This time around, to celebrate my 40th birthday, we decided to go to the even less touristy La Gomera in November.
La Gomera is considered (by at least one blogger whose scribblings confirmed my bias) as one of the best hiking destinations in the world. Well-signed routes lead through valley after valley of dramatic views with barely another soul to be spotted.
Jo and I spent a perfect week of pootling around in our little convertible, going on some hefty hikes, spotting cetaceans, and relaxing at our airbnb with perhaps the most dramatic views of anywhere we have ever stayed!
Side note: Netflix shot some location scenes for The Witcher on La Gomera.
